Hey Chris, honestly not my area of expertise but... probably? Open source models can be stripped down to their "bones" and return content that you couldn't get from a regulated serviced model like ChatGPT. The pace of advancements in the space has underscored the necessity for AI labs to drive innovation versus taking time to focus on the "control problem" etc (hence OpenAI's complete about face from a nonprofit).
The truth is AI labs have to produce the best and most useful models as quickly as possible or face irrelevance. It's clearly not just a US market anymore. There's certainly some risk in that, not to mention what impacts AGI (or wherever this ends up leading) brings.
Do you think there are risks or challenges that could develop from making powerful AI models openly available to everyone?

This is one of my favorite pieces on it all if interested - part 2 gets deep into it: https://waitbutwhy.com/2015/01/artificial-intelligence-revolution-1.html
